Broadening our scope of utilities such as video, audio narratives, photo galleries to interactive timeline and maps, the Layers of Rome program designs its content to fit a number of demographics from educators and students to Roman enthusiasts and tourists. Our mission for the "Map Tours" is to provide in-depth and meaningful content that is user-friendly in both function and substance and accessible both in-the-classroom and on-site.

Literary Walks Tour

The Literary Walks Map takes users on a on-site or virtual tour to walk in the footsteps of the Grand Tourists and pilgrims of all sorts in the period from 1700 to 1900 drew inspiration from the unique atmosphere and historical memory permeating Rome. We are in the beginning stages of creating an interactive map charting the literature and visual elements of travelers during the Italian Grand Tour and afterwards. The Literary Walks Map will explore how visual images, art, literature and sound enhance the experience of a place and, in turn, how experiencing a place more fully illuminates a text, visual image or piece of art. The goal is to create a layered, interactive, enjoyable experience of art and literature in the Roman sites that inspired them, and, in turn, generate more meaningful conversations about the literature, art and music of Rome.

The Roman Forum Tour

The Roman Forum Map is a user-friendly map that plots out a path to explore some of the prominent buildings and structures found in the heart of Rome’s forum where all matters of Roman business, government and culture merged. The map highlights certain sites within the forum explaining origin and purpose along with visual representations of what these magnificent sites looked like in their prime.
